Odd Streams #013: Pre-Stream & Post-Stream Checklists, Plus a Quick Case Study on Ranboo
Use our checklists as a reference each time you stream. Plus you need to watch Ranboo's video on how he grew to 250,000 followers in less than a year
Happy Monday!
Many of you who read this newsletter are streamers, so we decided to put together something EVERY streamer needs: a pre-stream checklist. And since we were creating this checklist, we also decided to include a post-stream checklist.
Why we put this together
A pre-stream checklist will help you identify any potential issues that may crop up during your stream. Although you may know the ins and outs of your stream setup doesn’t mean you won’t encounter any technical issues. Plus it’s easy to overlook a simple issue if you’re running on autopilot every time you go live.
Pre-Stream Checklist
Restart your PC (make sure you save anything important).
Open your streaming software (OBS, Streamlabs, etc).
Open the game you’re going to play.
Open your browser. Pin or bookmark all the webpages you typically use during your stream (this may include Twitch, SullyGnome, Twitter, etc.).
Plan on playing music during your stream? Get that setup.
Check your audio settings, video settings, and lighting setup.
Open your Twitch chat and make sure your moderator bots are working.
Make sure you have water (or your beverage of choice) and snacks. Go to the restroom now if needed.
Do a last minute audio/visual check.
Title the name of your stream and update category on Twitch.
Share on your social platforms you’re going live.
Go live.
After you’re done streaming, it’s time to go through the post-stream checklist
Post-Stream Checklist
Thank everyone for watching.
Tell everyone to follow you on Twitter/Discord so they can get an alert when you go live next. Also direct them to your YouTube channel for additional content.
Host someone. Could be someone in your stream team or someone you’d like to promote because you think they’re awesome.
Turn off your streaming software.
Save your stream to an external hard drive. Share it with your video editor (if you have one). Share feedback of any notable moments to be captured for compilation videos on YouTube.
Check in with your mods and ask for feedback. What went wrong? What went well? Is there anything you should know about that you missed during the stream?
Check your stream summary and Twitch stats. What insights can you gather from the data?
And that’s it!
We’ll post both checklists on our website shortly, along with a downloadable PDF or JPG, so you can reference it at any time.
Ranboo’s Success Story
Ranboolive signed up for Twitch on January 30, 2020 but didn’t start streaming until late September. It took him less than 4 months to reach Partner. And now he averages over 12,000 viewers per stream. It’s unprecedented.
Lucky for us, he shared a video on how he’s grown all of his social accounts so fast. This includes YouTube and TikTok.
Check it out. I promise you’ll learn a few things on how you can grow your channel as well.
